Invitations!
Friday, June 4, 2010 at 11:27AM From my March 8th post:
A few weeks ago, we went to the "craft stores" we frequent (the names were changed to protect the expensive) and as usual, he and I were totally tracking in the creative, resourceful realm. Long ago we decided to do very simple invites to 1. save on postage 2. avoid the ever awkward invites that ralph inserts and just get thrown away anyway and 3. keep it simple.
So we found paper we love , DK googled the local distributor and we narrowed it down the warehouse where they tuck it into sleep every night. Nice. So this morning we actually went to that warehouse's office where I swear I caught a glimpse of Phyllis, Stanley and Kevin and were redirected to the Clampitt's store.
These people are the most helpful and nice in the entire paper industry. We worked
with Cody and he sent us home with enough materials for 500 invites and 250 thank you cards for $137.00. Paper and envelopes. I'm not even joking."
When we left off there, Arwyn was designing the invites. It's funny how the timing worked out because she just happened to be on Spring Break and was looking for a creative project to do to add to her portfolio. I showed her an idea I LOVED and had been working on in Photoshop and I'll never forget her casual response: "Why don't I just draw this?" And she did. It was all the more special because my sweet friend/bridesmaid/soontobesister crafted it personal, just for us :)
By the end of the week, she had them complete and we printed from home. Funny, when I opened the email attatchment, I called her right away and am pretty sure my response was nothing short of "OHHHH MYYYY GOSHHH I LOVE THESE YOU ARE AMAZING, THEY'RE SO PERFECT, OH MY GOSH, HOW AWESOME!!!
From there, we had Liz V., Lindsey, Tiffany and David over one night to help address envelopes and tried to get them in the mail right away. I think this was by far one of the heftiest tasks of the entire wedding! We had Arwyn do two versions of the invite - one for the wedding and reception and another for those coming to the family reception. Here are her brilliant masterpieces:
Somehow our hopes that this wedding would 1. reflect our lives and the people around us and 2. have some sort of consistent theme actually did happen. It was fun hearing all the different thoughts and comments as each guest received theirs, nearly everyone expressed "They are so you guys!" Mission accomplished. Thank you Arwyn, thank you so much :)
