Chalkboard Wall.

I've wanted to do this for so long in our place, but we've had so many other projects in queue, it seemed we'd never get to it! But the time came when last Sunday after church, DK announced "We're going to Home Depot, honey."

We loaded up with the supplies and I took pictures along the way so you can build one too!

Supplies:
Rust-oleum Chalkboard paint - $10
Sheet of Hardie board - $7
Trim of any type of wood and size you prefer - $12
Stain for trim - $5
Roller brush, etc. - we already had some in stock :)

Clean off your Hardie board and go at it with the chalkboard paint, per your specific brand's instructions. I think we had to do two coats and let each try a certain amount of time, but I forget cause I was doing other stuff at that time.

Concerning measurements, we really lucked out by not having to saw much because the size of the Hardie board was almost the exact measurements of 3 pieces of wood trim with only 1 cut. You can figure this part out on your own though, depending on how big you want your end result to be!

While you're waiting for dinner to cook or for your chalkboard paint to dry, go ahead and stain your trim. We picked a darker stain to match all the other wood in our pad, even though we don't always endorse matchy matchy.

DK is really thorough and does things like this right the first time but I get too excited and jump ahead, my momentum runs out and I move on to the next project. That's why we are the perfect pair - DK has followthrough and consistent momentum, I carry the excitement, add creativity and take pictures of the whole thing!

Once everything dries, is cut and measured, get out your drill and some small wood screws. Screw your trim around the board and voila! DK also purchased a heavy duty wall hangy device and made sure all the screws in the wall were ultra reinforced. He's good like that.

Next go ahead and hang 'er up! We love ours and use it to post recipes we want to cook, (we always forget the intent we had in buying random groceries we wouldn't normally purchase) weekend things to do lists, funny drawings, messages to one another, a calendar (we both discovered I'm reallllly bad at counting) and projects on the forefront of our minds. Let me know how yours ends up... and here is ours!

Love this! We did one in our kids playroom. I also did a small wall in my kitchen. I have big plans for grocery and to do lists for it!

DK, now that you're married I think the rules state that you have to wash your feet.

A co worker of mine used the chalkboard paint on an old dining room table and they use it in the family game room. The kids can draw or write messages and when they play card or board games use it to keep score. I want to do one eventually when we go over to play games everyone LOVES the idea!!!
